A Week In The Life.

So as normal, this week has been full of mixed emotions. Been feeling quite down at point, once again, and not too sure of the reasons why.

Take now for instance. I am sitting in Summer clothing, looking out on a beautifully clear sky, with the sun setting. Normally this would give me a feeling of happiness and content, but instead if feel pretty downbeat. Although I have got used to this way of living lately, I still feel the need to escape from it - somehow. The music of the moment is Joy Division. Partially due to this mood, but also in respect and admoration for the late Ian Curtis who died 30 years ago on Tuesday. This gives me many different thoughts. Thoughts about people's reaction to Ian and Joy Division at the time and how his death affected not only the band's popularity but his status as an "icon". Was he appreciated at the time? To me the answer to this seems to be no. Unfortuately, it takes for something truely horiffic to happen for people to sit up and take notice. Even those close to him, the band etc, could not see the danger he was in - with Steven Morris (drummer) even recounting that at the time he 'didn't think anything of it' and that he believed he was just a 'good songwriter'. On the other side of this however, this popularity and success endured after Ian's death may not have occured if it was not for this tradgey. A small bit of food for thought there.

Anyway, other music that has been shaping me this week has come in the form of another of my favourite bands that I tend to neglect for a while then go back to and realise how much they blow me away - The Doors. Once again, lyrics taking precidence in the songs for me and another young death at 27 of Jim Morrison - frontman of the band. Apart from this, many others have been dug out this week. Umung them: some old Kings of Leon, Led Zeppelin, new and old Foals, The Bronx, Blackhole, Gallows, a variation of Beatles as usual - and many more that could be added to the list.

A final note too.. Pulled Apart By Horses! A band that I do not fail to connect to in my life at the moment - it's fun, clever and just like nothing else. And in the band we are covering 'I Punched A Lion In The Throat' tomorrow evening. We can't wait! Could be interesting! And can't wait until their album is realised on 21st June!

End.
